About Hong Kong

Arts and Culture

Hong Kong is a dynamic vibrant city that boast’s a philharmonic and Chinese orchestras, Chinese and modern dance troupes, a ballet company, several theatre groups, art groups and art organisations including a world class Art Museum.

Doing Business in Hong Kong
Hong Kong is definitely a great place to start a business. A dynamic, energetic business environment, Hong Kong also has incredibly favourable business and personal tax rates. A definite incentive to get started. Try the following as good starting points:

Getting Out and About

Hong Kong boast’s some of the world’s best restaurants and some of the best sea food you’re ever likely to encounter. People here take food very seriously. Lunch is an important meal as is any banquet, be it lunch or dinner. There are various smaller Islands one can visit by ferry and the sea food on these islands is as good as you’ll get anywhere in the world and fresh too.

Then there are restaurant areas like SOHO or Kowloon, a restaurant like the Peking Garden on Canton Rd in the Star House building (at the Cultual Cnt end of Canton Rd) that offers wonderful Cantonese cuisine and the best Peking Duck I’ve ever eaten. The chef’s at Peking Garden often entertain guest’s with noodle making and the making of other delicacies.

Shopping
Hong Kong is on the door step of mainland China and as such the variety of goods coming into Hong Kong is vast. If you want cheap products they exist however they are harder to find. What is cheap in HK when it comes to shopping, shoes (which the girls love) cosmetics, transport as in trains, ferries and taxis too.

You will get the latest models in electrical goods but not the cheapest. There is a building in Henessy Rd Wanchai where there are several floors devoted to computers and software, but remember “caveat emptor” and check what you’re allowed take home without having to pay excess duty. There are several markets the biggest is the Temple St night market, and then Apliu Street.

Tourism
There is plenty to see and do in Hong Kong. On Sept 12th of 2005 Disneyland HK will open. Fantasy becomes reality in Hong Kong Disneyland's magical themed lands: Main Street, U.S.A., Tomorrowland, Fantasyland and Adventureland. You'll also find two Disney themed hotels: The 400-room Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel with its Victorian-style décor and, the 600-room Disney's Hollywood Hotel that captures the spirit of Hollywood in the 1930s and 1940s.

Asia World-Expo is a dynamic new convention and exhibition facility. The gigantic complex consists of 10 halls, eight of which are interconnected, creating a 66,000-square-metre, column-free, ground-level hall space. This fantastic new venue will be ready for use in late 2005.
